Last night our Redhawk basketball teams got one step closer to clinching playoff births and possibly hosting a playoff game. In the first game, the Redhawks and Cougars of York got off to a sluggish start but the Redhawks began to pull away in the 2nd quarter going up by 10 at the half. Both teams remained cold in the second half but the skill set of the Redhawks would prove to be too much for the Cougars as the Redhawks went on to post a 42-20 victory and remain tied for second place in the region with RNE. Mya Belton led the team in scoring with 9 points.
Before the start of last night’s boys game, the Redhawks were in a 4-way tie with York, RNE, and South Pointe. That tie was quickly broken as the Redhawks used a big second quarter run to go in to halftime with a 12 point lead. In the second half, the Redhawks remained hot and used their stingy defense to hold the Cougars to 27 points for the game. Dante Brown had a huge defensive game gathering numerous loose balls and putting the clamps on York’s Malcom Kennedy. Russell Jones and Cameron Wormack were the scoring leaders for the Redhawks with 15 and 10 points respectively. The Redhawks now will travel to Lancaster on Friday and with a win could possibly clinch a playoff spot.
