For the 3rd region game in a row, the Redhawk Girls and Boys basketball teams swept their opponents. This time the Bruins of Lancaster were the victims as the girls were led by a game high 20 points from Mya Belton and she was supported by Nyah Leveretter’s 12 points to help lead the Redhawks to a victory. The girls are now in position to take over sole possession of 2nd place in the region and that all important home playoff game. With two wins this week they will have sole possession of 2nd place in the region or with one win this week and an RNE loss they will have 2nd place wrapped up.
The boys continued their strong play getting up early on Lancaster only to watch their big lead disappear late in the game but were able to finish off the Bruins in the last 2 minutes of the game. The 59-51 victory over Lancaster gave the Redhawks sole possession of 2nd place in the region due to York upsetting South Pointe. The Redhawks are now 5-3 in the region and have almost certainly gained a playoff berth, but it is still too early to tell where they will be playing next week as their is a log jam of teams from 3rd to 5th in the region. The results of this week’s games will certainly determine their playoff destination.
