Last night our Redhawks continued their win streak in region play by sweeping the Stallions of South Pointe. In the girls game, Freshmen Ja’mari Frederick came off the bench to score 10 points and give the Redhawks a spark on their way to a 54-40 victory over the Stallions. Unique Drake and Maliyah Lockett would be the scoring leaders with 21 and respectively. Lockett also contributed with some tough defense, blocks, and rebounds. With a win on Friday versus Ridge View the girls would be able to host the school’s first ever girls playoff basketball game!
The boys came in to last night’s game needing a victory to secure its first ever home playoff game and only its second playoff appearance. The Redhawks would get some bench help in the first half after some early foul trouble from Ellis Hawkins, Adam Douglas, and Jalen Watson. All three came in for some quality minutes to help the Redhawks late in the 2nd quarter as the two teams were tied 18 points each at halftime. The Redhawks would extend their lead in the 3rd quarter by as many as seven points only to see the Stallions keep the game close in the 4th quarter and cutting the lead to one point with 3 minutes to go. However, the sharp Free Throw shooting from Russell Jones Jr and Xavier Doby would help lead the Redhawks to the 46-39 win and the school’s first ever home playoff game next Wednesday at 7pm versus either Belton-Honea Path or Daniel.
