Multiple Teams · Boys Give Blazers First Loss/Girls Come Up Short

This past Friday night our girls and boys basketball teams would recognize their Seniors in their final regular season home game versus the Blazers of Ridge View. However, this will not be the last time the Seniors play on their home floor, because both teams will host a first round playoff game this week in the 4A State Playoffs.

In the girls game, both teams battled to the very end in what was an exciting game between the region’s two best teams. With a tied score of 26 at halftime, the Blazers would get a lead up to 6 points late in the game to only see the Redhawks come back and take a one point lead with 2 minutes to go. That lead would not last long as the Blazers come back to take a 3 point lead with under :30 to go after some one and one free-throws. The Redhawks would have two chances to tie on three point attempts but would only come up short as the Blazers would would come away with a 65-60 victory. Maliyah Lockett would lead the Redhawks with 23 points while Unique Drake would finish with 20 points.

The boys came in to this game seeking revenge for a close loss to the Blazers earlier in the year. From start to finish, the Redhawks would never leave a doubt on who was going to prevail in this game. The guard play of the Redhawks made things tough for the Blazers all night long as their quickness and defensive pressure were the key. The Redhawks were led by Seniors Cameron Wormack (12 points) and Xavier Doby (10 points) as they led a well-balanced scoring attack that would send the Redhawks to a 54-37 victory over the Blazers. This was the first loss for the Blazers in region play.
