This weekend was a tough weekend for the Redhawks as both the girls and boys teams were eliminated from the 2nd round of the state playoffs.
On Friday, the girls traveled to undefeated and nationally ranked North Augusta and put up a good fight for most of the game but the Yellow Jackets were too tough in the second half for the Redhawks. After cutting the Yellow Jacket lead to 5 points midway through the 3rd quarter, the Redhawks went cold and the Yellow Jackets sprinted to a 11 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. They continued their strong play in the 4th quarter and put the game out of reach in route to a 63-44 victory over the Redhawks. The Redhawks finished their season at 19-6 for the second straight season and advanced to the 2nd Round of the Playoffs for the second straight season.
On Saturday, the boys traveled to Aiken High for their first ever 2nd Round Playoff game. The Redhawks would jump off to a 10-6 lead on the strong play of Cameron Wormack around the basket. Midway through the second quarter, the Redhawks would go on a scoring drought that lasted into the first part of the second half. In the 3rd quarter, the Hornets of Aiken would build the lead up to as much as 10 points, but as they have done all year, the Redhawks would not give up. Late in the fourth quarter the Redhawks would get the lead down to two points and on two different occasions would have a chance to tie the game in the last minute. However, they could not get the baskets to fall and the Hornets would make free-throws down the stretch to seal a 50-44 victory over the Redhawks. The Redhawks finished the season with a 17-9 record (MOST WINS IN SCHOOL HISTORY) and won the first playoff game in school history.
Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding year and for representing our school with class on and off the court!
