Last night the Redhawk Girls and Boys soccer teams took on the Fairfield-Central Griffins at home for the first game of their regular season. Both teams came out on top to start their seasons off on the right foot.
The girls team came out hard in the first half with goals scored by Alivia Martinez (freshman), Haven Frazier (freshman), and Jada Pearson (sophomore) ending the half with a score of 3-0. With their continued offensive momentum the girls scored quickly in the second half ending the game with a final score of 9-0 and having taken 18 shots on goal. Martinez and Pearson lead the attack with 3 goals each followed by Frazier, Essany Bailiff (freshman), and Emma Howe (senior) each with a goal.
The boys team dominated play against the Griffins with Sai Quewan Bennett (sophomore) and Thanh von Seherr-Thoss (junior) scoring in the first half. Senior goalkeeper, Matthew Breivik, had one save before suffering from a major injury as the first half came to a close requiring Clay Woronka (freshman) to take over in goal. The boys finished the game with a final score of 4-0 after taking 10 shots on goal with goals scored by Bennett (2) and von Seherr-Thoss (2).
Both teams will be on the road later this week. The girls will play Friday at Mid-Carolina kicking off at 6:00pm while the boys travel to White Knoll.
