Redhawks News · Redhawks Crush the Cougars

Last night our girls basketball team made very quick work of the York Cougars as they pulled away early in the 2nd quarter to on to a 63-28 victory to take sole possession of first place in region play. Maliyah Lockett came out strong to lead the Redhawks early with a hot hand, as she finished with 11 points. Freshmen, Malayziah Etheridge, continued to show improvement with 9 points to go along with leading scorers Unique Drake (16 points) and Mya Belton (16 points). At halftime of last night’s game, we honored Unique Drake for her 1,000 points milestone that she reached back in December. The Redhawks will travel to Lancaster on Friday for another region game followed by Saturday’s MLK Bash at Eau Claire as they will take on the Lower Richland Diamond Hornets.

The boys team came out of the gates quick last night using their full court press to get an early advantage only to see the Cougars cut in to the 12 point lead to only be down 35-31 at halftime. However, after a 9-0 run in the first 1:30 of the 3rd quarter the Redhawks would crush any thoughts that the Cougars may have had of coming back in this game as they outscored York 30-9 in the 3rd quarter to go on to a 82-55 victory. Breon Lewis came off the bench to spark the Redhawks with 11 points while Russell Jones Jr. and Tahjay Dunlap would lead the Redhawks with 16 points each. The Redhawks are now 2-0 in Region play tied for first with Ridge View and 10-5 overall. Their next region game will be Friday at Lancaster with a 7:30 tip.
