Redhawks News · Westwood Welcomes Coach Ty Baumgardner

Westwood High School has hired Ty Baumgardner as its new Head Boys Basketball coach. Coach Baumgardner replaces Jeff Dibattisto, who led the Redhawks to a 19-6 record this past season, and a 3rd round playoff appearance.

“We are excited to see Ty take over the program and keep the program going at a high level, Westwood Athletic Director Jason Powell, said.” “He has been a highly successful High School Basketball Coach, having one over 73% of his games in 17 years of coaching and has won a state championship. He is more importantly a high quality individual with high morals and he will fit right in with our strong coaching staff here at Westwood!”

Baumgardner leaves Collins Hill High in Suwanee Georgia where he served as Head Coach over the last four years. Before Collins Hill High, he led Olympic High in Charlotte for 10 years winning a state championship and a 30-0 record in 2013 earning him the AP North Carolina State Coach of the Year.

Baumgardner says, “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be the next Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Westwood High School.  Dr. Guy and Coach Powell’s vision for the men’s basketball program was one of the key factors that went into my decision.  I’m looking forward to the new challenges ahead and joining the Redhawks Athletic Family.”

We cordially invite you to meet Coach Baumgardner on Monday May 14th at 6:00pm in the main gym. Coach Baumgardner will discuss his vision for Westwood Basketball and go over summer plans with players and parents.
