The Westwood Varsity basketball teams traveled to battle the Fairfield Central Griffins Thursday, November 29th. Both teams came to play bring home two wins for the evening. The girls team tipped off first and controlled the game with a final score of 74-14. The girls team was led by Unique Drake and Nyah Leveretter both with 14 points for the night. Maliyah Lockett and Essence Marshall both put 10 points on the board with Ja’Mari Fredrick (8 points), Sierra McCants (6 points) Malaziah Etheridge (4 points), A’Laya Scott (4 points), Daijah Hall (2 points), and Erin Mines (2 points) also contributing to the Redhawks score. On the boys side of the game the Redhawks scored a record 102 points to to dominate the Griffins 102-47. Kendall Wormack scored 19 points to lead the Redhawks with Bre’on Lewis (18 points) and Ta’Jay Dunlap (16 points) trailing close behind him. Also contributing to the Redhawks record breaking score were Russell Jones (11), Santana Turner (11), Jalen Watson (7), Christian Horn (6), Fred Savage (4), Patrick Farmer (4), Mequaje McDaniels (3), and Tyrrell Huff (3).
Friday evening the Redhawks hosted Airport for their second home game of the season. Both teams continued to dominate the court with the girls winning 64-32 and the boys winning 82-54. Leading scorers for the girls were Nyah Leveretter (16 points), Essence Marshall (10 points), and Ja’La Wade (10 points). Sierra McCants (9), Malaziah Etheridge (7), Unique Drake (6), Maliyah Lockett (4), and Ja’Mari Fredrick (2) also contributed to the Redhawks Score. On the boys side of things Ta’Jay Dunlap dominated the court putting 21 points on the board with Russell Jones (13 points), Tyrrell Huff (11 points), and Christian Horn (9 rebounds) setting up the team for another win.
