This week the Westwood Basketball teams traveled to Hammond School on Tuesday and hosted the Spring Valley Vikings on Wednesday.
Tuesday evening the Skyhawks boys team came to play challenging the Redhawks to maintain their undefeated record. The final score of the game was Westwood 77 Hammond 71. Kendall Wormack was the points leader for the Redhawks scoring 19 points for the evening with Russell Jones with 18 points and Tyrell Huff with 16 points helping lead the Redhawks to their win. Prior to the nail biting boys game the Westwood girls team dominated the Skyhawks 76-29. Nyah Leveretter and Ja’La Wade led the Redhawks with 11 points each. Also contributing to the girls commanding lead were Malayziah Etheride (9 points), Unique Drake (8 points), A’Laya Scott (8 points), Daijah Hall (7 points), Essence Marshall (7 points), Sierra McCant (7 points), Ja’Mari Fredrick (6 points), and Imani Simon (2 points).
Wednesday evening’s game hosting the Spring Valley Vikings proved to be a tough game for the girls team. After a hard fought game the team fell 56-66 to the Vikings. Despite the loss Unique Drake still managed to put 21 points on the board with Nyah Leveretter contributing 15 points to the Redhawks’ score. The boys team played another tough game, but was able to maintain their undefeated record beating the Vikings 61-52. Russell Jones scored 25 points to help push the Redhawks forward to their win. The remaining points for the Redhawks came from Bre’on Lewis (11), Ta’Jay Dunlap (10), Tyrell Huff (5), Mequaje McDaniel (4), Kendall Wormack (3), Santana Turner (2), and Ahmon Green (1).
The girls team will play again Saturday, December 15th at the Cardinal Newman Showcase and the boys team will hit the court Saturday, December 22nd at the Hotcakes n Hoops Invitational.
