Boys Varsity Wrestling · Big Week for Westwood Wrestlers

This past week, the Redhawk wrestling team had a packed week with 4 back to back days of wrestling where  they traveled to Spring Valley on Wednesday, Cardinal Newman on Thursday, and Lugoff Elgin on Friday and Saturday for LE’s 2 day tournament.
On Wednesday, the Redhawk put on one of their best performances of the year against Spring Valley where they won 7 matches and only lost 2. Jordan Hightower, Gabe Smith, Rilan Harkness, Marcus Nedd, Tyvion Shannon, and Drake Lesher all came up big with pins vs Valley. Eli Villa won his match by points of 11-2.
Thursday night, the wrestling team went 2-0 vs Cardinal Newman and AC Flora. The Redahwks absolutely dominated AC Flora winning all but 2 of their matches.   Cardinal Newman, the team Coach Bush came to us from, put up a much harder fight, but with wins from Lunn, Villa, Smith, Hightower, Nedd, and Shannon, the Redhawks pulled ahead with a 1 point lead for the 40-39 victory
Friday night, the Redhawks took a light load of 4 wrestlers to Lugoff Elgin where Captain Jordan Hightower was the #1 seed for his weight class and Captain Tyvion Shannon was #2 in his class.  Trinity Lunn lost a tough first match against the wrestler who would eventually finish 2nd, but bounced back and absolutely dominated her second match against Sumter and got her first pin of the season in just 24 seconds!  After 2 rounds of action, all 4 wrestlers advanced on to day 2. Hightower ended the tournament finishing 2nd going 3-1 with wins over  Blythewood, Hartsville, and North Charleston.  Shannon finished 4th going 3-2 with wins over Chapin, Wando, and Cane Bay. With only 4 wrestlers (out of 14), the Redhawks still had such a great performance that they finished tied for 18th out of 28 total teams
This week, the Redhawks travel to Rock Hill (#1 in 5A) on Tuesday, host the Clash at the Castle Friday, and travel to Airport for the Airport duals on Saturday.
