Last week the girls and boys basketball teams hosted York on Tuesday and traveled to Lancaster on Friday. The teams walked away from the week with 4 wins.
Tuesday night the York Cougars traveled to the castle for their second region match up with the Redhawks. The girls team dominated the Cougars 70-13 with Unique Drake (15), Essence Marshall (14), Nyah Leveretter (13), and Maliyah Lockett (11) leading the Redhawk scoring run. McCant, Wade and Etheredge all contributed to the girls win. After the total domination by the girls team the boys took the court to follow suit. Russell Jones Jr. led the charge for the Redhawks scoring 21 points. Tyrell Huff, Kendal Wormack, and Ta’Jay Dunlap were also key to the Redhawk’s 80-43 win over the Cougars.
Friday night the teams traveled to Lancaster to take on the Bruins. The girls team came out in typical fashion leaving the Bruins behind for a final score of 90-31. Nyah Leveretter lead the charge scoring 21 points for the evening. Unique Drake (18) followed closely behind her with Maliyah Locket, Essence Marshall, Sierra McCant, Malayziah Etheredge, Erin Mines, Ja’Mari Fredrick, and Ja’La Wade putting points on the board for the ladies. The boys team came out hard to finish the week with a win taking over the game winning 89-59. Ta’Jay Dunlap led the team with 30 points followed by Russell Jones Jr. (22) and Tyler Huff (14).
Both teams continue region play this week hosting South Pointe on Tuesday and Ridge View on Friday. The girls game Tuesday against South Pointe could determine the Region 3 4A Champions. Make sure you come support both teams this week.
