Redhawks News · John Combs Takes Over Redhawk Basketball Program

Westwood has hired John Combs as its new Head Boys Basketball Coach. Combs will take over for Ty Baumgardner who stepped down from the Head Coach position to move back to Georgia. Combs will be coming over from Ben Lippen High School where he served as Head Boys Coach for 3 seasons and before that he served as Head Coach at Ridge View for 11 seasons. In 2011, Combs led the Blazers to their first ever State Championship game before falling to Irmo in the title matchup. We are excited to have John take over our Boys program and I know he will have great things in store to continue the success we have had over the last 3 years.

Combs says,”I am extremely grateful and honored Dr. Guy and Coach Powell have entrusted me with this opportunity at one of the premier schools in South Carolina.  I am excited to be back in Richland Two and join the outstanding team at Westwood High School.  Westwood over the past few years has been one of the best basketball programs in South Carolina and we look forward to the challenge of continuing to build upon the culture excellence on and off the court.” Combs plans on getting started immediately with summer practices beginning next week.
